OUR SERVICES
Individuals
Are you living the life you want? Individual therapy is an effective way to explore the thoughts, feelings and actions that create anxiety, low self esteem, depression, shame, and anger. These obstacles hinder personal growth, sense of self, and fulfillment in life. In therapy we work to understand the context in which these problems arise while staying mindful and present. We will develop skills and tools to reflect and respond rather than be reactive when these obstacles arise. By aligning intention with action, we create the opportunity to embody the change you want in your life.
Adolescents
Adolescents need a safe space to explore and express their thoughts and feelings without being judged, especially when they feel lost, angry or misunderstood. We can develop skills to cope with the dramatic changes that occur in social, cognitive-behavioral, and emotional areas of functioning. We explore issues common to adolescents such as peer pressure, family dynamics, body image issues, academic pressure, experimentation with substances, low self-esteem, impulsiveness, and social anxiety. Our approach is casual, conversational, directive, and solution focused. We set the goals for therapy together and work towards those goals using insight and practical solutions. Sometimes there aren’t solutions, but we can find ways that make it easier to have understanding and acceptance.
Families
Family therapy is an opportunity to harness and strengthen family resources. Family members work collaboratively to improve communication and develop an understanding of how problems can affect each member as well as the family as a whole. We build on strengths to facilitate change and develop new ways to solve problems and resolve conflicts that come from stressors like blended families, underperformance at school, birth of a new sibling, unemployment, relocation, substance abuse, mental illness, divorce, grief and loss. A healthy family system provides an environment for each member to thrive.
Couples
Couples therapy provides a safe space to identify rigid patterns of interacting and explore challenges within a relationship. Couples have the opportunity to gain new perspectives by learning to listen to each other without judgment. In this way, couples learn to manage conflict more effectively and build upon a foundation of trust and intimacy. We may not be able to resolve all conflict, however, we can work toward a better understanding and acceptance of differences. It is important to maintain the balance of expressing oneself as an individual while growing as a couple. This growth allows couples to celebrate shared values and develop a more intimate partnership.
We can also assist couples in planning for treatment when issues affect both the individuals and the relationship, and therapy feels needed but the options are overwhelming. Feel free to call for a free consult to help sort through the options.
